As a painter I purchased two of these lamps - the Triple Bright Lamp by Daylight Company - to provide a bright white light over my easels. I'm also always trying to get a light that shows the colors most accurately. I found the three 14 watt, 6500 Kelvin fluorescent tubes that come with the lamp a little too bright and a little too blue for my purposes.

I called the manufacturer, Daylight Company, and spoke with their customer service. My question was - could they provide a replacement bulb that was a little warmer and/or of lower wattage? I was told that that was not possible; that they manufacture the bulbs according to their determination of the best use for the lamp, and they do not feel the need to provide any other options. The person I spoke with also emphasized that they manufacture the bulbs themselves and that they are custom sized to fit the lamp - i.e. that there is no other option for replacement. I then contacted the parent company in England, but got no satisfaction there either.

I LOVE mine. Have it on my bedside table and the swing arm feature is great and definitely helps give more light to read by or to use one's computer. At least, That's how I feel. In fact, I liked mine so much i ordered another for my 19 year old daughter. She saw mine, liked how it looked, worked; really liked the swing arm feature because she does alot of crafting that involves a need for a lamp that's not directly on her crafting table, but beside it and it gave her what she needed with the swing arm feature. She really likes hers, as well! I am really surprised at how many people did NOT like theirs. I thought the price was reasonable and we like ours, so I hope people won't stop to buy it because of a few negative comments, because I think it's a great product and I would recommend it to anyone looking for this type of lamp. I also think it would make a good Christmas gift and/or other occasion gift.

Fully extended upwards this lamp is 2 ft. tall. It's a bit over-sized for my computer desk, and I need to keep it in the corner to keep it from blocking the screen. Still, with a 60 watt bulb it produced an excellent light for writing checks or reading printed material, and it maneuvers easily into different positions, although the peg that holds the lamp arm in the weighted base is a bit wobbly. There's a screw to keep it from coming out, but it rotates a bit too freely with a bit of a wobble. Still that's just a minor flaw.

This lamp costs about $8 more than the comparable Alvin swing arm lamp, but it's SO worth the $8!! Within a week, plastic parts were breaking off the Alvin - the parts that are plastic on the Alvin are metal on this lamp. Studio Design is the way to go!
